Being a teenager sucks. Studies, scholarships, parent troubles, social drama, and trying to look good are all things that the average teenager has to deal with on a daily basis. But I'm here to try and take one of those things off of your shoulders: Acne. Everyone has it, and while some suffer from pimples more than others, we all get zits every so often. Getting smooth skin takes time, but with a few inexpensive changes to your lifestyle, your shining faces can be acne free.
Moisture
A lot of teenagers are terrified of keeping their face hydrated because they think that that means that they will get oilier skin, causing more pimples. For the most part, that's total BS (you're not putting oil directly on your face, are you?). A daily facial moisturizer is critical to maintaining healthy skin. While some moisturizers you try probably will break you out, just depending on the unique chemicals in your face, you're bound to find something that'll keep your face soft and acne free.
Water!
I think water is the most under appreciated thing that all humans need. If you are properly hydrated with H20, it not only makes your body really happy, but can also clear up your face and make your hair shinier. Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima is said to drink an entire gallon of water each day. Even though that's a little extreme, do you see any pimples on her face? Nada.
Dark Chocolate
Rather than treating your self with sugar packed gummy bears or taffy, try a square of dark chocolate instead. Not only does it have a lot less sugar, but it also has a ton of really great antioxidants that can shield your face from the icky stuff that makes you break out.
Blueberries
Even though blueberries don't directly affect acne, they are still really great for your skin. Like chocolate, blueberries are chalk full of antioxidants that can help fight against wrinkles and grossness on your skin.
Almonds
Sans-salt, almonds can be a tasty snack, AND contribute to youthful looking skin! If you're anti-almond because you heard they're full of fat, technically you're right, but you're also wrong. Almonds are full of "good fat", the same kind of fat in avocados and stuff, so it actually benefits you more than it harms you.
Wash your face
I know it sounds obvious, but cleansing your face is super duper important if you want healthy looking skin. I'd recommend an oil-free wash so that our oily teen faces don't break out. A really great (and fairly inexpensive) example is the Philosophy Clear Days Ahead cleanser, which uses a really fancy kind of acid to clean your face after a sweaty day. On this note, ALWAYS REMOVE MAKEUP BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP! Keeping your makeup on can cause serious damage to your skin, reportedly aging your skin by 3 years. Obviously you won't wake up with the skin of a 20 year old, but not removing your making will catch up with you!
Oil-Free
When looking for products like foundation, sunscreen, and other stuff that'll go on your face, always go oil-free. Oil (unlike water, which keeps your skin moist in a good way) can really easily cause breakouts and general ickyness. Always check that the product your buying is oil free!
Toothpaste
Obviously, putting toothpaste on your face is a last minute resort. If you know you have somewhere to be in the morning, but you have a giant blemish on your face, dab a little white opaque toothpaste on the blemish, and it'll dry itself out by morning. It's not going to completely remove the pimple, but hopefully it'll reduce redness and the size, so that putting coverup on it is a lot easier.
I really hope that this helped you discover some ways to keep your skin just the way you like it. If any of you guys have any tricks or products that have helped you with acne or skin problems, please tell me in the comments!
Stay groovy,
xo Camille
P.S. If you guys haven't noticed by my twitter, I'm actually on vacation right now! Hopefully I have enough posts queued up to keep you guys around, but if I don't, remember I'll be back in the blog-o-sphere before you know it! <3
